Dr. Margaret Wood is the President and CEO of WOOD Consulting Services, Inc., an award winning, Management Consulting and Information Technology firm located in the heart of Howard County, Maryland. Now 20 years in business with over 90 employees, entrepreneurship has proven to be a great lesson for Dr. Wood. This experience has cultivated her multi-tasking and decision-making skills and enhanced her passion for life-long learning. Dr. Wood credits her mother for instilling the value of education.
While pursuing her doctorate at George Mason University, Dr. Wood hosted Brown Bag Lunch Seminars and shared what she was learning with her co-workers. “I’ve always made intentional choices, says Dr. Wood.” Her former DoD Chief quickly took notice of her actions to continuously share what she had learned and asked if she ever thought about starting her own business, focusing on process improvement. That question resonated with Dr. Wood and soon she began to ponder the idea of business ownership.
When asked about the mentors she looked up to, Dr. Wood described herself as a “people watcher”. Instead of having just one mentor, she observed those around her. She attributes her success to listening and observing others that charted a path before her regardless of their industry focus.
As a life-long learner, Dr. Wood was extremely proud to witness her youngest daughter receiving a degree in International Politics from Pennsylvania State University on December 15, 2017 after overcoming tremendous odds. She is the proud mother of 3 children, all college graduates and, no student loan debt. “I beat the odds, declares Dr. Wood”. This African American woman, intentionally driven and accomplished entrepreneur, Author, Speaker and Influencer, has been recognized with numerous awards over the years, a few are highlighted below:

• October 2017 – BDPA-DC’s 2017 Entrepreneur of the Year
• October 2017 – Top 100 MBE, Capital Region Minority Supplier Development Council
